The foundation of dentistry is dental care. Miskin Dental strongly believes in taking a preventative approach to dental care. The heart of our practice is promoting dental health by regular hygiene and preventive care. We are here to help you keep your teeth for a lifetime.
This is not just by cleaning your teeth but we also monitor your health and catch potential problems before they get out of hand. Canadians are less likely to visit the dentist as they age. Data from the Ministry of Health reports that only 59% of Canadians over age 65 visited the dentist in 2015, which compares to about 64% of adults under 65 and 82 percent of children ages 2 to 17. Regardless, it is important to visit the dentist for cleanings and exams regardless of how long of time has passed since your most recent dental appointment.
A professional has to do a thorough cleaning even if you brush and floss regularly. Bacteria holding plaque can accumulate in the smallest of crevices, pits and grooves. Eventually, the teeth will start to decay in those areas, which could result in pain and tooth loss.
Your regular dental exam will consist of a health examination of the teeth and gums looking for a number of diseases like cancer, abscesses, etc. You may also require x-rays for a more comprehensive view of your teeth if you haven’t been to the dentist in a while. You’ll also consult with Dr. Miskin about any health problems or questions in the mouth that you may have and Dr. Miskin will discuss any treatment recommendations for you.
Before or after the exam, a dental hygienist will use special cleaning instruments to remove the plaque and tartar from your teeth, followed by a polishing.
